What is the Poetic Function? 20 Examples

The Poetic function Is considered a function of language whose main purpose is to produce an aesthetic sensation of beauty, pleasure or grace.

In this language function, the main element is the way a message is communicated, and not just the message itself. This is because there can be many ways of communicating the message using different expressions and intonations (Exemplode.com, 2017).

Poetic Movements

Some examples of the poetic function are the rhymes, the literary works, the sayings, the songs, the poems, the dramatic texts, among other literary examples.

However, this language function can also be used in the production of commercials, advertising campaigns and daily popular speech (Lenguaje, 2017).

The poetic function has a rhythmic configuration that focuses on the form of the message rather than its background (Rhetorics, 2015).

In this way it can be said that this function of language is used to enrich the expression of an idea, mainly in written form (Gramáticas, 2016).

Usually, the poetic function uses the use of adjectives and adverbs to emphasize the characteristics and qualities of the subject included in the message.

On the other hand, uses the use of other literary figures to give greater verbal richness to expressions (Examples, 2017).
