Principles of operation of the hydraulic press

The hydraulic press is based on the Principle of Pascal To operate, which indicates that the pressure through a closed system is constant. One part of the system is a piston that behaves like a pump, with a moderate mechanical force acting on a small transverse area.

The other part is a piston with a larger area that generates a corresponding mechanical force. Only a small diameter pipe - which withstands the pressure better - is needed if the pump is separated from the cylinder of the press.

According to the Pascal Principle, the pressure in a confined fluid is transmitted without decrease and acts with equal force in equal areas, at 90 degrees from the walls of the container. This causes a difference in the length of the displacement, which is proportional to the radius of the areas of the piston heads.

A fluid such as an oil is displaced when each piston is pressed inward. Since the fluid can not be compressed, the volume that small piston moves is equal to the volume displaced by the larger piston.
