The 10 most lazy countries | According to WHO

Laziness is one of the deadly sins, not in vain are many people who suffer from it. So much so, that when they are grouped in one place many lazy people give rise to lazy countries. This is the topic that we want to talk about in today's article, specifically from the 10 most lazy of the world.

This list of the most lazy countries has not been done at random, but is given by a study conducted by the World Health Organization, that is, the WHO that has tracked rates of physical activity worldwide and has built a list of the least active countries, that is, the most lazy countries.

What do you rely on to make this list of the most lazy countries?

Laziest countries

The vast study, which was then published in The Lancet Global Health, had the participation of 1.9 million people from 168 different countries, which corresponded to 96% of the world population, according to the WHO. These participants conducted surveys on the type of activity they carried out.

This study showed that, in 2016, almost a quarter of all adults, that is, close to 1400 million people, did not perform enough physical activity, which meant

"A risk of developing or aggravating diseases related to inactivity".

This includes diseases such as type diabetes and even some cancers.

The WHO determined that being an active person involved doing at least 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week, 150 minutes of moderate activity per week or a combination of both.

If we follow this definition of active person, one of the most lazy countries turns out to be Kuwait, where 67 percent of the inhabitants did not perform enough physical activity per week American Samoa proved to be the last with 53.5 percent, followed by Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Brazil.

This is the list of the 10 most lazy countries

  1. Kuwait (67 percent do not do enough activity per week)
  2. American Samoa (53.4 percent)
  3. Saudi Arabia (53 percent)
  4. Iraq (52 percent)
  5. Brazil (47 percent)
  6. Costa Rica (46.1 percent)
  7. Cyprus (44.4 percent)
  8. Republic of Suriname (44.4 percent)
  9. Colombia (44 percent)
  10. Marshall Islands (43.5 percent)

Far below this list is the United States, specifically in 143 of the most lazy countries, the data suggest that only 40 percent of their adults exercised frequently. The truth is that it does not surprise us too much because the United States is one of the countries with the highest rate of obesity in the world.

The case of the United Kingdom is equally negative, since they are in the position number 123 with only 35.9 percent without having enough physical exercise.

At the bottom of the list, or better said, the countries that did the best were, in the first place, Uganda, who had only 5.5 percent of the country without doing enough physical exercise per week. Uganda was followed by Mozambique, Lesotho, Tanzania and Niue.

So we can also draw up a list but, this time, with the 10 most active countries in the world. It is ready would be as follows.

Most active countries in the world:

Laziest countries 1

  • Uganda (5.5 percent)
  • Mozambique (5.6 percent)
  • Lesotho (6.3 percent)
  • Tanzania (6.5 percent)
  • Niue (6.9 percent)
  • Vanuatu (8 percent)
  • Togo (9.8 percent)
  • Cambodia (10.5 percent)
  • Myanmar (10.7 percent)
  • Tokelau (11.1 percent)

The WHO said the results from its study showed that its intention to reduce physical inactivity by 10 percent by 2025 "was not on track" something that worries too much. It could also be inferred from the study that physical activity was particularly high in those countries whose income was higher and that women had a significantly lower rate of physical activity than men.

"A significant increase in national action is urgently needed in most countries to expand the implementation of effective policies," they said. "However, the implementation will require bold leadership and total commitment in all sectors to change the current approach."

These data should give us a lot to think about. Each time our feeding it is worse and our physical activity is less, which is leading us to real health problems. It seems that in the richer countries, things get worse so we should all reflect on that.

Have you been surprised by this list of the most lazy countries? What do you think about physical activity? Practices enough? Taking into account the amounts established by the WHO. Tell us what routine you have and how you include that physical activity in your day to day.
