Finding the Sense and Purpose of Life in 5 Steps

Find the meaning Of life is one of the tasks that many adults have to go through at a given age.

In this article I will explain how to find the meaning of life, increase your motivation, become happy again and exploit your potential.

life's sense

Finding a purpose in your life will help you to get better results and live fully.

In my opinion, there are two options:

1-The first possibility is that we still do not know the real meaning of life...

2-The meaning of life is not fixed. It is subjective and varies depending on where you were born from, the family in which you grew up, Of your beliefs , Your culture and even your genetics.

Choosing an Authentic Purpose

If you do not want to live a dictated life, your best option is to choose to live with your values and choose a purpose yourself.

If you continue to live from what society and others expect of you, you will not be truly happy, you will feel discouraged, you will live to please and you will waste your potential.

The truth is that I can not tell you which way you have to go, that you have to choose. However, if I can offer you a way to find out:

1-Get rid of all your beliefs, presuppositions and socialization

It is impossible for you to leave the path drawn by society if you do not have an open mind, if you do not question everything that is dictated.

Let's say you've always had the passion to help others. This would be another way. The first would be to go to college, work, family...

In this case, it would be necessary for you to have The open mind And begin to believe that you have the possibility to dedicate your life to helping others.

2-What would be your best life possible? What is the purpose of my life?

Now, ask yourself this question, what would my best life be like? And the next what is the purpose of my life?

I recommend you write; Is emotionally liberating and helps to organize thoughts.

Ask yourself these questions as necessary. If necessary, repeat them 100 times and answer 100 times. When the response makes you feel excited, you will be very close or you will have found an important meaning for you.

3-Make a comparison

This technique can be complementary or independent to the previous one. I used a coach in a Coaching process And gave very good results.

Draw a picture of yourself with two situations:

-The situation in which you will be within 5 years if you follow your current path.

-The situation in which you will be in 5 years if you follow another path.

What excites or excites you more?

4-Observe your passions and those of your childhood

Surely you have a passion for something, whether you are conscious or not.

If you have followed your passion and you have found a meaning to life that excites you and makes you happy, no problem.

However, there may also be two other options:

-You know what your passion is or what you think is the vital meaning and you are not following it.

In this case, your only option is to get out of the rut, Set goals and act.

"That you have no idea what your passion is.

In my opinion, since childhood, passions are shown; Children show what they are good at, what things they do well in a natural way. However, with socialization and conformism passions dissipate and people enter the dictated path.

In this case, you can see what causes you passion, what you do well naturally and effortlessly. Also, think about your childhood; In the things that you did and that excited you. Finally, return to point 2 of this section (What would be your best possible life? What is the purpose of my life?).

5-Act and live congruently

Have you found your passion, what is your sense of life?

Well now comes the hard part: make it a reality by setting goals, doing projects and acting.

It would therefore lead a congruous life.

"Your purpose is to solve a problem?" What problem is it? What goal do you have? What is your project to solve it? How and when are you going to start acting?

- Your purpose is to contribute socially? What goal do you have? What is your project? How and when are you going to start acting?

Examples of people with purpose in life

0-Common

This would be what most people follow, common: adapting to society and others, being reactive (not proactive), not following their passions, work, family, home.

1-Living for others

A good example of this case is the Mother Teresa of Calcutta : For more than 45 years he served the poor, the sick, the orphans and the dying, while at the same time guiding the expansion of his congregation, first in India and then in other countries of the world.

2-Achievements and Adventures

There are people who have great ambitions and whose purpose in life is to achieve great achievements, their meaning is to achieve.

Examples: the Wright brothers, Henry Ford, Edison, Colon, Neil Armstrong, Gandhi...

3-Art and Literature

The purpose and meaning of other people's lives was to create art: Picasso, Van Gogh, Velázquez, Frida Kahlo, García Márquez, Cervantes...

4-Solve problems

The highest exponents of the people who have dedicated their lives to solve problems And to contribute to the advancement of humanity are scientists: Alexander Fleming, Albert Einstein, Watson and Crick, Pasteur, Marie Curie...

5-Spirituality

There are people who simply want to lead a spiritual life, these would have an ability to perceive something beyond the physical senses.

There are people who followed a spiritual life (Gandhi, Dalai Lama, Buddha, Rumi...) although they can also be placed in the"live for others"or"achievements"points.

The simile of the worm Is there another sense?

I would like to question you something: and if you can not yet know the real meaning of life Believing we know everything about the world and reality sounds very overbearing.

However, it is a mistake in which the human species has often fallen.

  • Before Galileo , It was believed that the world was the center of the universe.
  • Before Christopher Columbus , It was believed that the earth was flat.
  • Before Albert Einstein It was believed that time is a constant variable (relative).
  • Before the first flight of the Wright brothers, it was believed that it was impossible to fly.

What if you really had a misconception of what you know or what is reality?

Imagine a worm: it only has the sense of touch, it has no vision (much less consciousness). Therefore, it can not perceive the reality that we perceive.

What if you did not have the necessary sense to perceive another reality or the meaning of life? In the case that there was another way of perceiving the true reality, the meaning would be different.

The human species may not yet be sufficiently evolved, or have sufficient knowledge to give an answer to the question of what meaning life has.

It may also depend on something outside our control and we are living in a kind of experiment.

This last hypothesis is not paranoid nor I have invented it. The possibility that you live in a kind of"matrix", in which you are being investigated by something or someone has been proposed by some world-class geniuses such as NASA scientist Rich Terrile or the entrepreneur Elon Musk . I think we should consider the opinion of someone who has been able to create Tesla Motors O Space X.

There are those questions left. What is your opinion?

The meaning of the life they teach you

I leave aside the option that we do not even have that"sense"that makes us see more and return to real life and everyday life.

What do you live for? To be happy? Do you have pleasure? Be rich? Have material possessions? Get knowledge? For God? For Achievement?

The answer will depend on Your values , Ie the aspects of life to which you give importance, to your principles of action.

Some values are: altruism, achievement, ambition, acceptance, belonging, materialism, spirituality, compassion, cooperation, contribution, kindness...

These values are described by the culture in which you live, your context within that culture-family, environment-and your genetics.

In general, in the Western culture Is valued a life that has the following ingredients: to have work, to have house and car, family, to live of calm and safe form, and finally to retire.

It is what we have been educated. At least my teachers did not educate me to have more ambitions, to solve big problems, to invent things, to have an impact, to know and to be curious...

If you realize, in these aspects is based on the socialization of most people. And you can enter the same road that everyone follows, reaching the end without practically realizing it.

Because other"seeds"such as ambition, willpower, curiosity, or"not following the flow"have been planted, it is more difficult for people to get out of the way.

Therefore, the meaning of life is often determined by socialization and is this: work, family, things, security.

Every day I get emails from people who They have motivation problems . Perhaps that is the big problem to solve: they are following a path almost dictated and that does not correspond to what they believe is the meaning of life. I think what they would have to do is change the path to the values they have.

And what kind of feeling do you think life has? I am interested in your opinion. Thanks!
