Agricultural and Fishing Technologies: Characteristics and Examples

The agricultural and fishing technologies they are elements that favor efficient production in the agricultural and fishing areas, respectively, within a society. Agricultural technologies are those that produce machinery capable of working in farms, crops and plantations.

They include machinery for tilling the soil, planting seeds, irrigating and cultivating crops. They also include technology specialized in protecting crops from pests and weeds, harvesting the fruits of crops, feeding livestock or even packing products in bulk.

On the other hand, fishing technologies are all those technologies and machinery capable of capturing any type of aquatic animal, no matter what method is used to achieve this end. Usually, fishing technologies are used from a specialized vessel to operate this type of machinery.

These technologies used in fisheries can specialize in the capture of small fish or invertebrate animals, as well as in the fishing of larger animals, such as whales and squid.

Characteristics of agricultural technologies

Agricultural technologies have specific characteristics, depending on the work they do. Although automatic pickers have now made harvesting work not done by machines, tractors are still essential for a modern farm to function effectively.

- Modern technology is relatively simple to use, after each farmer practices properly with the equipment. This simplification is one of the main reasons why the use of this technology is increasingly pronounced.

- They allow a level of industrialization much greater than that allowed by human tillage, because they do the work that would take a person in a few minutes.

- In many cases it is influenced by the farmers themselves. That is to say, if world farmers begin to have the need for certain tasks to be executed more quickly, agricultural engineers will devote more time to the development of specialized machinery.

- In certain cases, these technologies are not very accessible. The best equipment is excessively expensive, which makes independent farmers unable to access them.

Examples of agricultural technologies

Tractors

The tractors are currently used to till the soil or plant seeds. In addition, they help in a series of additional tasks within the farms that can not be carried out by a human being without the help of heavy machinery.

Machines for working the earth

There are special machines to till the land, which loosen the natural hardness of the soil and get rid of weeds by using tools that count.

This occurs with plowing machines, since other objects called compensating discs are currently used, which cause the earth to retain moisture.

Planters

The farmers also have special planters that distribute the seeds at an exact distance between them, which makes the automatic planting much more effective than the manual.

Distribution of fertilizer and packaging

After the seeds are planted, there are other types of tools that are able to distribute the fertilizer on the farm. In addition, other equipment such as hay balers are used to pack the grass efficiently, so that it is prepared for winter.

Characteristics of fishing technologies

There is a large amount of fish that can be caught, and since they are distributed in areas with different ocean conditions, it is necessary to develop specialized equipment capable of withstanding the conditions of both fish and sea.

- Fishing technologies have been developed around the world in accordance with the local traditions of each region. In conjunction with this, new implements have also been developed as the technology has advanced worldwide.

- The networks used for fishing have been greatly improved in modern times thanks to the advances of mankind in the development of artificial fiber.

- The use of new mechanics to handle fishing equipment has also made this art easier to practice than in ancient times.

- The current technology is also characterized by having improved with respect to past times in attributes not directly related to the extraction of creatures. For example, refrigeration helps conserve the fish in a better state, which has allowed the boats to remain at sea for much longer than before.

Effect on small fishermen

Fishing technologies are usually easily accessible, but their cost does not allow smaller fishers to have them available. However, most have managed to modernize their traditional methods a bit, mainly through the use of new engines and more durable equipment.

The new characteristics of fishing have helped to significantly increase the monetary gains of fishermen, even the less affluent. Productivity is a fundamental attribute that has improved on a global scale the ability of fishermen to capture and conserve fish.

Examples of fishing technologies

Strength in the reeds

Fishing technologies can also be reflected in the daily lives of casual fishermen. The advances in the capacities and strength of the fishing poles (including the force with which they can pull the line) are faithful examples of the capacity of the technological advance in fishing.

Fishing with traps

By using the fishing style with traps, one can also appreciate the capacity of technology in fishing. Using modern traps increases the capacity of fish that can be captured, as well as the resistance of the trap to prevent them from escaping.

For lobster fishing, special traps are used, which also serve to catch crabs and other crustaceans.

Electro fishing

One of the most modern capture techniques is called electro fishing, which uses electricity to stun fish. This makes them much easier to capture without the need to harm them.

Collection machines

The so-called collection machines are also a relatively new method for fishing. Water pumps are used to propel the fish out of the ocean; Then, they are simply captured by the fishermen.
